Both water and crystals, especially gemstones, have been associated with beliefs, protection, symbolism, benefits, and healing for humans since prehistoric times. To this day, they underpin various traditional complementary and alternative medicines (TCAM), such as hydrotherapy and crystal therapy. Although their efficacy is difficult to prove through clinical trials and their bio-activity through current scientific knowledge (pseudoscience?), their applications in health and well-being are increasingly common.
Matter, when reduced to its smallest component, is merely energy. The fundamental universal nature is vibrational at various frequencies at the quantum level. Future understanding of the therapeutic bio-activities of waters and/or crystals (and gemstones) will likely increase with the development of energy, vibrational, or virtual medicine, as well as advances in research in quantum physics, vibrational energy, phonons or atomic movements of crystals organised in vibrational modes, crystallographic resonance, quasi-particles, formational vortex, liquid crystals, nanotechnology, water micro-structure, sacred geometry, among others.
The vibrational energies of crystals and waters can be seen as two complementary manifestations of the same root: the natural resonance of matter. A literature review of the approaches: physical and scientific basis, energetic, symbolic, and therapeutic perspective, structure and frequency, and the principle of vibrational resonance, can be summarised as follows:
CRYSTALS
Crystals have an extremely ordered and stable atomic structure, with atoms organised in geometric grids, capable of vibrating at their own specific and constant frequencies (resonances), which depend on their chemical composition and crystal lattice. They emit stable vibrational patterns with mechanical resonance at very stable frequencies and are capable of reverberating (creating echoes). Minerals have several unique physical properties, very different from those of other solid substances.
Crystals are surrounded by an energy field similar to that which surrounds all living beings, the perfect crystalline structure: it absorbs, stores, transforms, and transmits energy from the environment. Even though the energy levels of crystals are relatively low, they still have a noticeable impact, as their magnetic resonance is harmonic and continuous. The weak electromagnetic vibration of crystals can cause strong reactions in the human body. Thus, when it comes into contact with another deficient energy field, it tends to transform and balance it. The energy of crystals penetrates, through its resonance, the spaces between atoms to transmit changes in cells.
WATER
Water is a unique substance with several thermodynamic anomalies: its molecules, when subjected to vibrational, sonic, or electromagnetic fields, organise themselves into small groups called dynamic clusters, which easily and constantly reconfigure themselves. They possess high molecular sensitivity to external vibrations, acting as sensitive receivers, stores, and transmitters of these patterns; they appear to record energetic information. As a fluid and “informational” medium, they are capable of absorbing and retransmitting resonance, functioning as an energy vehicle.
CRYSTALS AND WATER
Crystals can influence water through vibrational resonance, helping to “structure” its energy. Water can be charged with crystals very easily. It is believed that the crystal’s natural vibration can subtly modulate the organisation of the surrounding water, favouring harmonic patterns. Thus, when a crystal is placed near or in contact with water, a vibrational resonance occurs. The crystal’s frequency can induce subtle reorganizations in the molecular patterns of water, transferring vibrational patterns (frequencies), modulating the local organization of the water. This not only receives but also amplifies the crystal’s vibrational information, acting as a “liquid memory.”
Geologically, crystals form in aqueous mineral solutions; therefore, the connection between crystal and water is intrinsic from their very origins, like a natural symbiosis. There is a resonant dance between the fixed structure of crystals and the fluidity of water, uniting stability and movement, memory and vitality.
Crystals, often associated with water, are part of the philosophy and architecture of dozens of spas worldwide; from the planning of healing spaces, feng shui, stone spa bathing (Ganban-yoku), saunas, bath rooms, tubs, hot stones, meditation spaces, earthing/grounding, and chakra harmonisation. Dozens of gemstone or crystal waters are also commercially known, with researched benefits through ingestion or bathing; whether as elixirs, essences, energy activators, antimicrobials, increasing pH, oxygenation, and flavour of the waters. Creating such an identity diversifies options, usually increases visitation and revisits to destinations, creates a historical and cultural aura, leads to reflection on the symbolism of talismans or amulets, and enables new options for crystal and/or natural water jewellery, accessories, and souvenirs. Such knowledge, associated with health, wellness and SPA tourism, can greatly contribute to the arguments for natural and cultural heritage of humanity (UNESCO) through the exceptional universal values of these mineral resources.
